Drawing a reasonably accurate plan will allow you to know exactly what you will need before you start. This will make the installation go smoother and hopefully prevent you making any major mistakes!
Draw an outline of the area to be irrigated which has the following:
- Obstacles and features - Draw your home, garage and any other buildings which are beside or inside your irrigation space. Mark in any features such as paths, big trees, rockeries, raised garden beds, swimming pool etc. We recommend you use a scale of 1 cm on your plan to represent 1 m in real life. If need be, join a few pieces of blank A4 paper together on one side with sticky tape.
- Dimensions - Measure (or pace out) the length and width of the space(s) to be irrigated and draw these onto your plan.
- Water source - Locate and mark with a cross the main water source for your irrigation system. If there is a choice then centrally locate the main water source for a multi zone system. Note this will be where your filter assembly and timer will be installed.
Here is an example. A 720 Sqm Block with a 230 Sqm 4 bedroom house and a standard sized pool. Note: the coloured shading is for illustrative purposes only, there is no need to do this on your own plan. (unless you want to)
