How to install

 

The easiest way to install Kisss is to lay everything in place and then cover with topsoil. If you are installing into an existing lawn or garden then clearly this is not a viable option! In that case you will need to use a trenching machine (available from most hire places) to dig the trenches for the Kisss pipe. Then, lay out and connect all the other pipework, and then backfill the trenches. If you are installing into a large open area then a Kisss tractor plough is available for hire, contact IWT for further information.

Start by using linemarking paint to mark out exactly where you want everything to go. This is very important as it is very easy to get confused and make mistakes once you start cutting trenches.

  • Start by marking your header and footer trenches. If you have a number of pipes running beside each other (header + footers, different zone headers etc) you do not need to cut separate trenches, they can happily share the one trench.
  • MEASURE, MARK and NUMBER where your Kisss laterals will start and finish. This is important to make sure you don't dig your trenches crooked. If you miss one mark you may end up digging the entire area wrong and having to start again. The trick is to make sure you start and finish on the correct lateral. Setting up a string line to follow while cutting the trenches is the best way to do this. Try and keep the tranches straight and parallel with each other, if you get them too close/too far apart you may introduce dry/wet patches.
Trenchmaster trenching machine Using your trenching machine cut the trenches 15cm to 20cm deep.
Install the header and footer pipes into your trenches. You will need to use 25mm Barbed elbows and Ratchet Clips to go around any sharp corners, and Tees and Joiners where needed.
Using punch tool Connect the Kisss pipes into the Header/Footer pipes using start connectors

 

Start by punching a hole into the Header/Footer pipe using a punch tool.

13mm start connector

Insert a 13mm start connector (take-off connector) small end first into the small hole you just created with the punch tool.

Connect the Kisss line onto the other end of the start connector and secure tightly with a 13mm ratchet clip.
Connect end plugs to both ends of the header pipes (where necessary), and to one end of the footer pipes.
Connect the inline valves (flushing taps) to the other end of the footer pipe.

Connect one end of each solenoid valve into the header pipe using a barbed tee. (Remember, one solenoid per zone)

Connect the other ends of the solenoid valves to the output end of the head works

Connect the input end of the head works to a tap.
Wire the irrigation timer to the solenoids.
