Soil Type:
A Brief Explanation of Soil Types
Heavy Textured Soils - Clay textures are generally what you would call a “heavy soil” type, in that the particles are very, very small. They are held together so tightly that if water is applied it only enters very slowly via capillary action, but when it does, it holds onto the soil very well. Heavy textured soils generally require the lowest flow rate KISSS products.
Light Textured Soils - Light textured soils are generally the sandy soils and loams. They are usually better draining and have good capillary action. Light textured soils generally require the highest flow rate KISSS products.

Kisss domestic kits are supplied with 13mm drip line. This is because fittings are readily available at all hardware and irrigation stores.
(The colour markings of Red, White and Green are sprayed onto the rolls/reels of product for quick identification of flow rates)
Shape of the irrigation zone(s):
Try and keep the actual irrigation zone as straight and rectangular as possible - Designing a fancy curved layout to exactly follow the contours of your garden may seem like a fun exercise on paper, but when you are out the back with a shovel in the hot sun and you notice that all your curves are crooked and a few of them are in the wrong place and you need to start again, it becomes very tiresome very quickly (and possibly expensive if you are paying someone else to do it). Here at KISSS we are big believers in the KISS principle. The simpler you make your design the easier it will be to install, and the more likely you will end up with a quality job.
Contour of the site (Flat or on a slope?)
It is desirable to lay the KISSS products at right angles to the slope, ie. across the slope, rather than up/down the slope.
If the actual KISSS lines (not the ground slope) are on a slope of greater than 30% then special precautions will need to be taken to prevent wet patches forming at the base of the slope.
On-site obstructions and features
Check for existence and location of buried services (Includes: sub-surface drainage, power, telecommunication, gas, water, etc).
Water source, pressure and power
You will need access to a source of water with a minimum pressure of 160 KPa (23 PSI). The irrigation controller will require access to mains power.
